Short Bio

Artist/Current artwork, writing and research in locative media.
Professor of Art and Head of Conceptual Information Arts (CIA) at San Francisco State University.

Working in video, sound, images, maps; on web and online, in public and gallery spaces. Influenced by experimental narrative, time, spatial and cultural theory, feminism, humanism and science fiction.

Thinking about how daily life and spaces are being changed by locative, mobile and networked systems, and what new understandings and connections can be forged out of these overlaid data networks that reconfigure local and global/near and far.

Developing new transpositions of locations and events that draw together disparate locations so they meet on common ground.

Imagining new ways to collapse the buffer of geo-political distances so they mix with the mundane and shift to commonplace, experiences of distance within arm’s reach.
